On July 8, ESI International announced the launch of a $500,000 scholarship program for out-of-work technical professionals. Scholarship funds will cover the majority of U.S. course fees for approved candidates, who may choose up to three courses from ESI’s project management or business analysis curriculum.
Courses can be completed at any ESI U.S. public classroom, or via any ESI online learning platform. Courses can be applied toward an associate’s certificate or master’s certificate issued through ESI and partner The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. GW will award advanced standing toward its master of science in project management to those who earn a GW/ESI project management master’s certificate and meet other requirements.
In addition to the scholarship, ESI has created a career information and source page for technical professionals at www.esi-intl.com/scholarship. The page includes a range of job-hunting resources and the opportunity to have ESI’s vice president of talent management answer visitors’ questions.
“Despite the current economy, project management as a profession is expected to grow substantially in the next few years with an increasing demand worldwide in such project-intensive industries as manufacturing, pharmaceutical, construction and IT,” said John Elsey, president and CEO, ESI. “This program will allow professionals to keep up their skills in the industry to take advantage of these leading economic opportunities.”
Project Management Software Gets a Boost
LA HABRA, CALIFORNIA — (Marketwire) — 07/08/09 — Leaders in the Project Management Software space, Project Manager Online Ltd today announced the release of a major upgrade of their online system.
“Firstly, we’ve dropped the pricing substantially” says Craig Nicholson, Technical Director for Project Manager Online Ltd, creators of the online project management tool.
“Where our competitors are putting prices up to stay profitable, we’ve dropped our prices to allow more customers to signup. Since we dropped our price from $45 to $25 per month, we’ve had a substantial increase in sign ups. This helps our customers who are money conscious at the moment, to keep using the software to deliver projects on time. It eases the pressure on projects, which are typically financially constrained in the current climate” says Nicholson.
Project Manager Online first released their software in July 2008 and have seen a marked increase in market share. Their claim to fame is their Project Planner is the most advanced in the online world and it compliments Microsoft Project perfectly, by allowing the import and export of MS Project Plans freely.
“In this release, we’ve provided full multi-page Gantt printing, so that customers can print large Gantt charts across multiple pages, to put up on a wall” says Nicholson. “We’ve also dramatically increased the speed of the application and improved the reliability, by fixing all known bugs. It’s now cheaper, faster and more reliable than ever before and we want to keep it that way. We also added support for large project plans by boosting the number of tasks per page. You can now manage tens of thousands of tasks using this innovative Gantt Chart Software online”.

I think we are also seeing some signs of recovery from the Economic Recession. Of course, we have no idea of how long it will take to completely recover, but some say it’s going to be longer than for the other recessions in decades. I also scanned an article yesterday that said business owners need a new set of tactics to do well during recovery.
