NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading project management organization, will host a panel of experts on global sustainability programs in corporations on October 12 at the PMI® Global Congress 2009—North America in Orlando, Fla. Panelists from Nokia Siemens Network, Hewlett-Packard and Sustainable Business International will discuss how project managers can enhance an organization’s global sustainability policies and practices through the use of “ethical supply chains” and other approaches.

“Integrating economic, social and environmental value into all portfolios, programs, and projects enables project management practitioners to add quantifiable advantage to their organizations,” said Gregory Balestrero, president and CEO, PMI. “The increasing recognition of global sustainability as a societal imperative is forcing changes in business values. Visionary organizations are shifting from a social responsibility approach of being generous to a global sustainability approach of being genuine. This shift is affecting the 'ethical' nature of supply chains, and direct impacts the way that Projects and Programs must be managed in the future. It is our hope that this panel will bring real world applications of this effort.”

Moderated by Balestrero, this panel of reputable business leaders will share their insight and experience and answer questions from the audience:

  • Ellen Jackowski is leader of the environmental sustainability corporate governance process and the environmental sales initiatives for Hewlett-Packard. She drives HP’s coherent strategy for sustainability practices and an implementation plan for training to infuse corporate environmental initiatives throughout all levels of the company.
  • Anne Larilahti is head of environmentally sustainable business for Nokia Siemens Networks. Her organization combines solutions and services with environmental issues, building an offering that takes into consideration both the impact on the environment as well as the financial requirements of business.
  • Sandra E. Taylor is president and CEO of Sustainable Business International, LLC. She has been senior vice president of corporate social responsibility for Starbucks. In addition to leading the corporate social responsibility programs at Starbucks, she launched the company’s Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) coffee-buying guidelines. Her innovations helped protect the environment, preserve biodiversity and provide social improvements for the local communities.
